The Government today announced the interval between the primary course and the booster dose will be further reduced from 4 to 3 months. This new interval will be implemented from Friday 4 February and applies to all eligible people aged 18 years and over, including immunocompromised individuals.
The systems and processes to support this will be updated overnight tonight, to enable vaccinating sites to provide 3 month boosters from tomorrow, Thursday 3 February. A prescription is required for any booster doses provided for newly eligible people for today only as the revised interval will be gazetted from tomorrow onwards. Please don’t turn patients away if they turn up for a booster dose before Friday.
Please also encourage eligible patients to get their booster dose as soon as they can, particularly those at higher risk either of getting Omicron or becoming seriously ill from the virus. This includes border and healthcare workers, Māori and Pacific people, people in aged residential care facilities, and people with underlying health conditions.
An updated booster handout and poster is attached and these will be added to HealthPathways later today: COVID-19 Vaccination Resources under Local guidance > health professionals resources > NRHCC. Please remove and recycle old material and use the up-to-date versions.
