More free flu vaccines and a second COVID-19 booster to groups at risk of hospitalisation

The Government is ramping up access to free flu vaccines and COVID-19 booster shots.
  • The Government has widened access to free flu vaccines with an extra 800,000 New Zealanders eligible from Friday, July 1 2022.
  • Children aged 3-12 years and people with serious mental health or addiction needs are now eligible for a free flu vaccine.
  • From 28 June 2022, a second COVID-19 booster will be available 6 months after the first booster for older New Zealanders and other groups.

GPNZ is joining a wide range of New Zealand medical organisations including the College of GPs, College of Urgent Care and College of Public Health Medicine in officially endorsing Doctors Stand Up for Vaccinations Doctors Stand Up For Vaccination (

The grassroots collective is designed to promote COVID-19 vaccination and challenge misinformation, with FAQs and an open letter to the New Zealand public urging people to heed the evidence and get vaccinated. Parallel initiatives have also been launched by nurses (Nurses of Aotearoa New Zealand Supporting Vaccination) and pharmacists (A letter from pharmacists).

Auckland City Mission needs your help

The Auckland City Mission is asking for help to fulfill their food parcels for those in need.
It’s now launching an emergency food drive and asking the public to bring in what they can, with non-perishable food items, including canned meat and fish, at the top of the list.
City Missioner Chris Farrelly said there are a few ways people can donate including dropping off at the City Mission or contacting them to pick up.
