Pertussis Outbreak

There were 187 confirmed, probable and suspect cases of Pertussis notified to the National Public Health Service in September and it is looking like New Zealand is heading to a national outbreak.

A few reminders:

  • Recommend Boosterix vaccination from 16 weeks in every pregnancy.

  • Encourage vaccination for the extended whānau of those who are pregnant and if needed, use your practice’s Discretionary Funding Pool if the vaccine isn’t funded.

  • Prioritise on time immunisation - 6weeks, 3months, and 5months with boosters at 4years and 11years.

  • Encourage all the practice team to be protected from Pertussis (including measles and influenza).

  • Booster vaccinations are recommended for all healthcare workers who are in daily contact with infants.
